I’m not talking about a simple album title announcement. I’m talking album cover, release date and a tracklist. I noticed that many pop stars announce all three months in advance while rappers may announce their album title in an interview, a concert or an IG post, but they don’t reveal the album cover, tracklist or even the release date until a few weeks prior to album launch. I even notice this trend in rappers that are practically popstars (Drake, Travis Scott, etc). Can somebody explain why their rollouts are so different? I don’t know too much about the music industry, I just enjoy the music

Pop singles tend to be less debut week driven - they usually rely on radio which builds up over time so they need a longer run to chart high

Pop albums also have to appeal to as many people as possible and usually people who aren’t tapped into pop culture and what’s popular - like older audiences. So you gotta have more time and promotion to bring those people in

Rap tends to have a younger more tuned in audience who will check something out when they hear about it - if your rollout is too long these audiences will lose interest

Takes longer to get a single popping on radio than on streaming platforms I think

It sucks, but it gives the songs time to blow up and stay on the charts (at least with O'Rod, Dua,...)

I don't know why Lana does it if she's not a charts artist. Same with Lorde.

Because that’s how album rollouts are meant to be done lmao

You’re supposed to roll out the contents of your album over time.

Because that’s none of your business.

Dont forget not long ago rappers would announce albums months prior also

Streaming era I guess changed the game, so Popstars really be announcing ahead of time like that?
