    A few reasons

1)It’s too conservative and follows rules of what “real rap should sound like”. Music is art and should never be conservative especially hip-hop which itself began as a genre that was inherently anti-establishment

2)Production is boring and predictable as a result of the “rule following” mentioned above which deprives the music of entertainment value

3)flows, rhyme schemes, delivery, and cadences are also often predictable and boring (even if they are complex) due to the above and to an over emphasis on lyrical content

4)that style of rap is inherently preachy and no one likes being preached at especially in an era where mono culture is dead and moral judgments, values, and belief systems are largely subjective

5)”conscious rap” is rarely all that conscious. Being a boring and conservative artist doesn’t necessarily make you smart or enlightened.

It’s a difference between “conscious rap” and an artist that has substance. I don’t think someone like Kendrick reaches with the conscious rap s*** I just think Kendrick is naturally a deep person so there is a lot of substance in his music and that’s okay.

All these points except for the last 2 can be applied to almost every rap subgenre in 2023

Man imagine a young now unknown lyrical nigga who could make catchy hooks with great beat selection and had a personality? Nuts

I like plenty of rap that can be classified as conscious

If you’re asking why I don’t like YBN Cordae then that’s a different conversation

Also a lot of people just don’t give a f*** about music as much as you’d hope.

And there are a lot of outsiders who come to rap to getaway from their usual bag (classic rock, etc) and are convinced that hip hop is only supposed to be mindless fun. Basically Post Malone ass niggas that think if they want to cry or use their brain that they should only listen to Bob Dylan and shouldn’t come to rap for that

  • A Mad Ass Nigga

Some of it is ass, sure but let’s keep it a buck, to most people ignorance is exciting from a distance. Plus it’s not really “cool” to like that type of rap.

Dead Prez was the perfect bridge between Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and Paris to Little Brother, Kendrick, etc. They brought an rager, doomsday vibe to their music that not only had political overtones but had that buck music vibe down to a T. S*** that makes you want to move.

I wish Pastor Troy fulfilled his potential, that man could have had a movement with the militaristic energy he provided. Problem was that he had too many clones were entering the game during his rise and stealing his sound. Plus, his albums were the epitome of mixed messaging on one moment he's talking about bucking the system and another he's on some hedonistic, ignant type s***.

I know personally how much s*** Dead Prez had to deal with concerning label politics. They was definitely not getting as big a push into the mainstream as they should’ve.
