@op dumbass...
when people say it's boring, they're usually not talking subject matter, but sound.
also think about the label "conscious rap". what kind of person willingly identifies with that? some guy who thinks his stuff is intellectually stimulating, unlike all these other low iq un-conscious rappers? I mean you can see how, just off the name alone, you're already dealing with some lowkey pretentious bullshit. There's definitely a "holier-than-thou" atmosphere around that space.
Also, your flag-bearers are J "snooze" Cole, Logic, Joyner Lucas, and Cordae. Now, I like some of Cole music, but look at the rest of that list and tell me u rlly have no clue why ktt doesn't like "conscious rap"
I suggest u go check out the slums dudes. these guys take their damn time writing a song, and u can tell in the lyrics. plus, the sounds they go for are actually interesting and exciting. but they don't call themselves "conscious rap", so maybe you haven't considered them. For the record, I've never seen anyone on ktt hating on their s*** either.
Say you aint read the thread without saying you aint read the thread.
Literally cited Azucar by Earl in this thread (he a big influence on that scene) and I’m a huge mike, mavi, navy, and siifu fan dawg.
Also where the hell did i ever mention logic or joyner lmfao
To expand on Slim's post:
Conscious rap, at least nowadays, is largely made for a solo listening experience, it doesn't serve the same purpose as drill or stuff like that.
As a DJ you can play a song about putting opps in spliffs in the dance but you can't play 03' Adolescence.
So conscious rap really isn't the answer to this question, it's more danceable music. Which I think is why Durk shouted out female rappers the other day, and part of the reason I liked HNVM so much.
It's why I'm so on board with the jersey club revival, and the UKG revival that happened over here a few years ago.
conscious rap better than it’s ever been
https://twitter.com/presidenttoguro/status/1557840845893664770lol i missed this

Anything he proving my point lol
the mr morale hate is agenda driven and reactionary, kendrick is the rare sort of conscious artist that can strike the middle ground of instilling messages + unique concepts in his music, while making them still musically interesting and enjoyable
other conscious artists on the other hand, they might have fantastic technical ability, or have great messages in their music etc. but it's usually not something that you really want to go out of your way to listen to (e.g Aesop Rock, Immortal Technique, Rapsody etc.)
He spittin
Mr Morale was an obnoxious album and one of the great musical letdowns in recent memory for me
I've liked every other Kendrick project so far
Production sounded bland to me, the ones where he experimented in terms of soundscape didn't work out for me personally, i HATE how he keeps sounding more and more like Keem too because i very much dislike his tonal inflections, flow etc
But at least Ab-Soul dropped a great conscious rap album not too long ago. He still holding it down for TDE
Also Lupe Fiasco's Drogas Wave is one of the greatest hiphop albums of all time for me but nobody really bumping it like that which is a shame
