They live vicariously through the artist, and they invest all their time into "supporting" or learning more about them to keep them distracted from the fact that they don't have a social life.

If you want to see the peak of this go on Twitter, every time an artist accomplishes something they get tons of hate from "fans" of another artist belittling their achievements and comparing them to their favorite artist.

Its why whenever their favorite artist accomplishes something they say "we did it" and whenever their artist is attacked they feel attacked too.

People who see the achievements of artists as their own and take criticisms of their fav artists personally are too lost in the spectacle.
