I know every word to this song, though I doubt I’ve played it in years, so why do we remember music so well, long after we forget people, names, events etc. What’s going on in our memories?

Repetition is really all it is. Chances are if you know a song by heart you’ve played it over and over and over again to the point where it’s just engraved in your memory.
