    Every major city has hoods

I grew up around all Hispanics and Black people. I didn’t even really see white people unless I went into town. It’s a lil different now tho with gentrification

same knew like one white family cause my friends dad married a white girl

Also can people on this site stop pretending to be black, claim street culture or the hood

A lot of the boys I knew that actually lived that lifestyle weren’t spending half their day on the internet arguing over stupid stuff

Claiming the “ hood “ or faking being black doesn’t make your opinions more valuable than the next loser

You all are cringe and weird

Because the white/european music mindset values virtuosity over everything whereas music is more of a life tool passed down in African cultures

A lot of white people always need to be impressed by music they don’t know how to just enjoy it and trust their own feelings

This translates to super white people being drawn to rappity rap that’s easy to be impressed by and easy to see the value of abstractly, instead of more enjoyable music

Edit: this is basically a summary of an explanation Quincy Jones gave I didn’t come up with this

What? Because it’s easy for me to imagine that there isn’t one street archetype but that many? Kendrick himself is from the streets, doesn’t mean he fits the street rap archetype

Some of y’all are really saying that black people don’t like unifying empowering music and all we want is s*** to “shuck and jive” to. I wish I was exaggerating but that’s really the type of arguments y’all are making

No, because your dumbass said "What's in it for me" when we're talking about black empowerment like it isn't a benefit for all

So are you saying black people don’t like unifying empowering music?

    Let’s be real

This forum is overrating Kendrick and conscious music

Just because it’s catered to black people doesn’t mean all black people will automatically support it

It all boils down to preference at the end of the day

I protest in women’s marches a lot, but I don’t support a lot of women’s ideals and messages

It’s true tho music is not a competition it’s something you can use to set your mood and help get yourself thru life.

The most technically impressive music is not the best music. The best music comes naturally when you’re in a flow state and not overthinking.
