I know that lol but like you really couldn’t find ANY enjoyment in something like Sweeney Todd? Footloose I understand but Sweeney Todd is awesome, has some of my favorite musical theater moments in it.

Kinda, was never on stage, only played trumpet in the pit band. Started getting more involved in pit bands as an adult tho, so I’m more of a theater adult lol

In sweeney todd defense, our choir freshman year was trash

  • because 70% of songs in musicals are overly campy

  • Hamilton is an affront to rap
The average Hamilton listener is more likely to listen to Qveen Herby than any actual rap music

Immortal Technique was right to throw Lin in a trash can

  • The singing takes me out of the narrative. Just doesn’t blend well to me

  • Sinners is my favourite musical

when is that out on arr matey heard theres some The Master vibes

It's definitely worth seeing, the title performance is amazing, and I can understand the comparison to The Master because of its focus on cults/sects/religious devotion. I can also see some influence from The Witch and Midsommar.

The musical elements are necessary to the plot and add a dose of unlikely sexual tension to a film that's otherwise about sexual trauma and repression. It's really interesting.

I had an idea for a rap musical. Like niggas beefing and getting into a shootout then spontaneously bust out into rhyming in the middle of it. Could actually be hard. Am I stupid?

Historically it's just always been an extremely corny and campy genre. Like all the "classics" have that overly gleeful cheesy ass theater tone going on. So anybody doing even a modern twist still has to point references to it cause that's just what u do in art. The best ones were so creative all around u don't really mind the songs cause they blend into the world (Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka, old Disney Films)

bollywood's domestic success should be studied tho, curious why india has such a fervency for integrating song with cinema

Usually it’s cause the songs in those movies aren’t traditional “musical songs” like how they are in the U.S., they’re legitimate songs made for the radio that also correlate to the story. Genres usually span from ballads to EDM, and Indian ballads in these films sound very different to an American musical ballad
