Everyone doesn’t literally mean every single artist but majority have been trying to be him

    In R&B I can't name that many.

    Maybe Drake, 6Lack maybe PARTYNEXTDOOR

JMSN is wack to me, I used to like him now I look back and cringe

idk why, his music is dope imo & he sounds modern while still having obvious classic inspo & vibe

i especially love the Velvet project

Real Thing & So Badly from it are some of my fav RnB songs period out of the 2010s. its better than a lot of albums to me tbh, especially on mainstream.

Stop being a lazy f***ing listener. There’s so many good deep album cuts and smaller artists

I hate this response. The point is you shouldn’t have to dig in the deepest crates to find diversity. That is ultimately the problem. It’s not that it doesn’t exist, it’s that at the surface everything is the same right now and it’s dry.

But that is on the “fault” of the audience not on the art. People like what they like so that’s what’s popular/more accessible.

A big problem throughout Hip Hop and R&B right now are clones. Nobody wants to do their own thing

I can tell you all these generic trap artists sound the same because they do.

    It doesn’t stop there

Conscious rap is over saturated with dudes going for a Kendrick Lamar X Mick Jenkins sound, that or trying to flow like Logic.

R&B it’s all PND clones. The only acceptable clone in R&B is Choker

You don’t even have to look that far. Just get off the Spotify top songs list. It’s not some painstaking process

I don’t use Spotify and I’m not saying I’m complaining about the state of R&B personally. I’m saying in general people always say dig deeper for music when that shouldn’t be the case

How is everyone supposed to find what they like? There’s no universally accepted taste that should rule the charts

These labels are Highkey controlling the narrative with that though is the problem and the youth control the charts as well to which most of them don’t have enough brain cells to want diversity

But it should be diverse that’s my whole point lol I’m not saying that one sound is better than another and should be on the charts instead, I’m saying there should be diversity instead of all the same thing

I’ve said this on here multiple times but think about how diverse s*** was around 2012/2013. It will never get better than that imo s*** was fresh and if you weren’t finding anything it was 100% a you problem. Not speaking for myself ofc but you’re average person isn’t about to dig for hours looking for new artists

Gave PND a full listen for the 1st time and listened to PND1. . .

WTF are people talking about when it comes to this guy? S*** was trash. He's a rapper not a singer and does neither exceptionally well. Making me waste my time listening to this guy bruh.

I agree with OP for the most part tho

It was extremely different for the time, it's melodic trap R&B, the sonics are unique and interesting,

Are you ignoring what I’m saying fam? I just said it was more diverse then than now. On a surface level there was something for everyone. You didn’t have to ‘dig’ to find gems. On a surface level in 2020 everything is literally the same
