The biggest criticism/knock on Kendrick is the initial setup of him (and this was moreso by his fans but the whole 2pac interview thing didn't help) as like a 2pac-like figure in hip hop. And he just isn't that, but that's ok.

The funny thing is (in typical KTT fashion) the actual things you can critique Kendrick on...NOBODY does that. They just make up weird s***. There's nothing pretentious about a Pulitzer prize. in Blacker The Berry the third verse is essentially about black on black crime, a concept that most people on the racial justice front adamantly disagree with, so to me it's kind of short sighted for someone as smart as Kendrick. I also really hate his last line that (and I promise im still a fan) just sounds like something I'd hear on Fox News:

Mr. Morale might be his least pretentious album. He's not doing the creative writing exercise s*** he used to do on his earlier albums, these are all experiences he's lived and wants to share with his listeners as freely as possible.
