These songs really exemplify grandiosity - They examples of epic 'wide-screen blockbuster' music, in their own way they are all overwhelming since so much, musically, is going on
I feel like that is always the best type of music, music than just overwhelms you with its scope and complexity, Pray 4 Love is legit like some final boss music in a video game, The Ride makes you wanna take over the world and Saint Pablo is some cosmic level s***
Am not saying there is no good music nowadays but in general hip/hop has become a lot safer, you hear the same drum & 808 patterns over and over and tracks are nearly always under 3.5 minutes in length. Of course music like this isn't very digestible, the PND track is almost 7 minutes in length, people simply don't have that kind of attention span anymore and I think artists are conscious of that
People are so easily impressed now with tiny attention spans amd burnt out dompamine receptors from constant social media use, p*** and d****

I feel you, it's all interlinked
I feel like my favourite songs are all over 4+ minutes in length
You gotta let a song develop and breathe in order to make it impact
Agree with After Hours & Lean tracks
After Hours was so well received because it was so reminiscent of that epic 'wide-screen' sound i'm taking about
Disagree with the James Blake track though, imo felt like it was a superficial attempt to imitate the style we are speaking about
because kids wanna hear some thug clone rapping on a basic 808 and snare
i know you're joking, but it has really come down to that smh
i re listen to illmatic this week and something memory lane or life is b**** gave me that feeling of cold winters day in new york
u got a point. rodeo is f***ing incredible. no one even attemps to make music like that anymore
I love albums that feel grand.
Imagine listening to kiss land in a movie theater bruh

with green smoke / fog filling the room and neon lights in the distance

No the xorst thing is people arent impressed and arent looking for impressive things anymore lol

My point exactly, these albums are so grand you envision them as blockbuster films and the music becomes the soundtrack
I think the attention span is dependent on how consistently you can keep someone entertained. Dark knight is almost three hours and I never get bored of watching it. Escape from LA is almost a 6 min song and I'm just realising that.
Because artists are lazy as f*** and the attention spans of listeners are almost non-existent these days.
Artists can do less and get more when it comes to their music. Listeners don't seem to care for "grand" presentation in the music they listen to anymore.
It's all fast food and that's all people seem to want.
