Like, y’all act like labels like Dreamville, OVO, TDE, and GOOD are failures of a label just because their artists aren’t all on the level of their founder when, in reality, they’ve given lesser known artists huge platforms to gain a dedicated fan base and make a steady living doing what they love. Some careers pan out better than others, but any label that’s giving artists the opportunity to create is doing something right.

TL;DR: Y’all too cynical and sales obsessed

labels are 100% responsible for a majority of the marketing and funding at hand

artists don’t have to be superstars but a lot of them are genuinely quality artists who lose out on their potential because of label neglect (Kacy Hill, Roy Woods, Isaiah Rashad)

I don’t completely disagree, but I also think that labels have to account for an artist’s ceiling when deciding how to market said artists. I don’t really think that any of the artists you listed have crazy potential, at least in terms of popularity. There’s also only so much they can do when an artist like PND or Isaiah Rashad just straight up isn’t ready to drop music

If labels weren't important then a lot of random artists would be blowing up, and that doesn't happen so

Most of these hip hop labels has more failed than successful artists

Labels are out of touch with how music is releasing nowadays. So many artists get shelved and can't drop any music because of their deal that could be growing their fanbase by releasing singles and projects that arnt full debuts with all the money behind it.

TDE is one of the worst for this, they have to "stick to the order" and cant deviate at all and it's clear some of their artists are unhappy with how its going down.

If anything, besides putting money behind them, the label input on how they release music / their aesthetic / what tracks are "single worthy" and what features they need are all negatives.

well this website is definitely too sales obsessed I agree with that much

Some artists expect the label to create hype for their album. That's the artist's job.

think you'd be surprised how many times labels are holding these ppl back, literally not allowing them to drop.

feels like you're giving labels way too much leeway, if a label's only job was to "help an artist create" then they should just give them studio time and call it a day

    Roy Woods isn't neglected.

KTT is full of armchair record label executives.

The way they see it, if you aren't a superstar the label has failed you. Doesn't matter what career or music choices you personally make, it's all the labels fault.

I will never understand what labels do for you other than connections.

They got marketing deals on speed dial.
They got producers on speed dial.
They got rappers on speed dial.
They got DSPs on speed dial (because the own them).

Other than that they cant do s*** for you and are basically a bank.
