Look at the top 10
Only christmas tracks and jack charting
song wise- yes. album wise - actually no. which kinda surprised me when i researched for the video haha. but i guess people dont stream christmas albums, just individual songs or playlists
but plenty of artists arent really competing for #1, and even in that case, plenty of songs go #1 a few weeks after they come out
rappers used to get really competitive over the 4th quarter and it would be such an exciting time of the year, now its a grave yard unless you get a rare one like WLR
yeaaa but even then those rappers would drop the first two weeks of december and not around the holiday week. which when physical copies were the thing, it made sense cause nobody wanted to go to the stores then

Nobody wants to go band for band with Santa
Because the weather outside is frightful
I would just think April-October are the best times to release music because you aren’t competing for people attentions (holidays and traveling), people tend to be more musically engaged (festivals, spring/summer etc.), and from what I’ve heard in interviews most executives slow down and hold back music during November-March to take advantage of the other s*** I said

yea 100%. there def is a peak season for those competing at the tippy top. i guess what i am speaking of is for the artists who arent really in that echelon, some might be smaller independent artists but tbh even some signed to labels that arent A-listers, they can take advantage of the wide open field and drop then

That’s what I’m saying tho, most smaller artists are recommended to not drop during the holidays as you are competing with holiday media, people traveling and any major artists who do decide to drop

but we acknowledged in this thread that almost no major artists ever drop around the holidays, with the exception of the carti album, so you're safe in that regard. and while some people enjoy christmas media—others f***ing hate it and get really bored hahah and being that outlet could help them find something new

Didn’t SZA, Taylor and Metro just drop last year around holiday time? Then the year before that, Juice, Ed Sheeran, Taylor and Adele?
I’m not saying that christmas media is the dominating force (even tho it is lol), I’m just speaking from things I’ve heard of people in the industry who highly recommend any artist not at that A-list level to not drop during the time because it doesn’t guarantee what you’re saying or has been proven to. I’m sure many have tried and it’s probably why it’s understood not to drop during that time cause it probably didn’t generate enough significant success

sza dropped december 9 or something, which is actually one of the hottest weeks to drop. its a small difference but im getting at why artists don't drop the week between christmas and new years basically. im sure many people say its a bad idea but people in music say s*** is a bad idea all the time because theyre scared of taking risks haha. it worked for carti! and that's really the most recent example
