I know they be recording like 100+ tracks for their album and only releasing like 15 of them, while most sit in the vault that will never see light of the day. But I know artists like Drake and even Linkin Park were generous enough to feed their fans with unreleased music, even though if some are like half baked ideas
It’s a shame cuz I know these rappers be having HEAT in their vault and I heard some great, unreleased stuff that was even arguably better than what they put out
Question is…why? Maybe their label doesn’t allow them? Lack of confidence?
If they package and release like 15 unreleased tracks as a free mixtape that’d be dope and great way to hold over the fans until the next major release
Legal / money / specific vision for their discog
But like why can’t they take Linkin Park’s approach where they’re put on like an exclusive CD for die hard fans and don’t have to market them?
I think it’s win-win situation, if you know what I mean

you have to clear stuff to sell it

Sometimes they don’t like them enough to release officially
Chief Keef should release some of those 2013 snippets 😮💨 I’d pay for some of them joints
Most the greats create trash more constantly than greatness and have great quality control
Unless u are Miles davis or somethin its imperative to vault most of ur work
they dont think its good enough

I feel you, it’s awesome that LP did that
They always had a special relationship with their fans
If u flood the market that can backfire
Really it's just u end up with more songs than u need, doesn't make sense to release everything all at once
Eventually songs get old and it rly don't make sense to drop them cus then it might not hit the same
The good majority of it is ass / incomplete
I mean how you know its "ass"

I wish more artists were like that
Because they are vaulted
It’s pretty common for artists to vault some of their favorite music because it doesn’t fit a project or because they can’t get a sample cleared
Some songs are vaulted and their lyrics are re-used for other songs. I know Kendrick and Drake do this.
I like when artists in late/retirement stages of their career release compilations of rare/vault stuff
