seeing a track written and produced strictly by a Pharrell or Babyface was always dope. Maybe it stopped out of being more collaborative?

I'd love to see Brent write and produce a song for SZA or a Giveon (just throwing names out there). We need that feeling restored.

Seems like there’s less and less incentive to put forth something with a tight and cohesive vision. Too much hit chasing

Because labels decided songwriting to that extent is a waste of resources, they spend the time and money on image and marketing and the music is an afterthought

I think most people tend to just stick with their most trusted collaborators and the producers within their teams. its easy to get 2 people in a room but you can't guarantee that they'll work well together and build a strong relationship.

The field of songwriting and ensuring your rights to songs are credited and accounted for has become all the more murky in the streaming era. Because the industry as a whole is more universally brand-based than 20 years ago, many more artists keep things in house because doing something great for another artist doesn't ensure that it will lead to more fruitful opportunities, let alone do anything for your own self-promotion

Fosho. I think artists want to be more involved in the songwriting process nowadays too

I mean say a part of the promotion was highlighting who wrote the song you dont think that'll help?

so he was saying doing something for another artist doesnt ensure fruitful opportunities which is true cause nothing is absolute but more times than not you'd think it'd help esp in this era

  • Cus they don’t want to

Brent isn’t that impressive or endearing as a writer for me to want him to write for an writer like Sza

    Costs too much

  • Jul 9, 2021

Less or no money for the artists, so less incentives

with rise of hip hop and the increased availability of equipment capable of making music relatively inexpensively, the songwriter and the producer have increasingly become 1 job, as opposed to two seperate jobs

  • Jul 10, 2021

I miss those days too, when a single person wrote and produced a song or even an album. Today, each song has like 3-5 different producers, yet hiphop has never had less dope beats than it has nowadays, beats that really stand out.

Future's X**** Damage was 100% just a Bobby Raps song. Bobby's vocals are still on it uncredited. I'm sure this s*** happens all the time. Artists and their management are just better about getting those credits whether they deserve them or not. EDIT: Later found out they aren't Bobby's vocals, but they are Bobby style vocals

Snoh Aalegra's album has a few songs on it that are likely suspects. Tyler and Joel Compass approached her with entire songs for sure. Maybe she wrote her own verse, but that's like finishing an adlib at that point.
