what are you talking about man smdh

you know exactly what I'm talking about. like why the f*** are you rapping about pythagoras and archimedes. Good lyricism should be about expressing complex emotions not flexing your intellect

To each their own. I'd rather listen to something that's evocative and resonates with me emotionally, than the millionth clever pun for slinging crack

We have different tastes in art. You don't have an appreciation for fly, impressionistic and evocative lyrics. You need all of your rap songs to be impersonal sociology and history lectures. I'm not going to convince you to see what I see

Thats not what any of us said

Ima make em lose count if they addin up the total
after i f***, lemme cry on yo shoulder..

Future is a poet. Look at the juxtaposition and bathos he's using in that. the way he seamlessly shifts from false bravado as part of his rapping persona, to shameless vulnerability. This is good writing in any other genre, but since he's not talking about the pyramids and ancient hieroglyphics ya'll treat him like he's chump

He and LUCKI fill up so much of these types of songs with filler generic rapper lifestyle bullshit to get to the few lines like these where you could vaguely interpret some type of meaning lol that's the problem with what you're saying

  • Carmelo Lupertazzi

I appreciate Joe Budden/Drake-style lyricism. I.e. basic personal storytelling and not just random psuedo intellectual hotep slop

I want to hear your story, not about "society" unless you have a genuinely fresh take

Name 5 rappers after 2010 who rose to prominence with people under 25-30 who had that hieroglyphics pyramid "hotep" type rapping

Literally it's just Ab soul and Jay elect and they had way more to them + they never really blew up fr

The idea of some lyrical miracle pyramid ass nigga being what niggas mean when they talk about lyricism is a (purposely?) outdated trope that people grab to justify laziness. It's much closer to the Wayne Jay Kanye Drake etc brand of "lyricism" where it's simply clever, saying something and on the writing level of at least a high school sophomore

  • Carmelo Lupertazzi

That's like exactly what Future is though? Lmao he's just not trying to be clever with his metaphors and add s***and violence to him still pretending to be a crack dealer over dope he sold in the literal Bush presidency lol

Literally everyone you're talking to is saying that's not what they want

Lmaoo why do niggas skip over Kanye Drake Wayne Jay or even TI when doing this

and going straight to some pharoah monche krs one canibus esque imaginary amalgamation of hotep rapper that no one under 25-35 consistently listens to lol

    @Moet_Hennessy where u at dawg

    Pinball 1 was actually fire.

The problem with Sideshow is bruh's mic presence is monotone and Niontay is ok but we gotta have an honest conversation is what makes them 2 more lyrical than say a MIKE tho?

Niontay will randomly have a brief line thats so subtly profound you think about it nonstop for a week

  • Unfortunately when rappers really try to bar out like that on trap beats it kinda just sounds like this

Its almost a whole different medium than pre-2010s rap, its more about how you say it than what you actually say, theres a good amount of rappers doing it right but I do wish there were more

  • Because Gen Z and alpha too far removed from the process they don’t even know how to go about it and they value vibes over everything and 9 times out if 10 the good “vibe” is gonna be low effort

why are niggas making basic ass figurative language out to be profound “lyricism”

it’s a cool lil pen trick but that’s it man, you put more effort into this comment than future did freestyling this

Isn't this literally what bands like nirvana and radiohead do, throw paint at the wall that can be interpreted any which way
