I used to use things like IG and twitter for a while everyday a few months back. I realized how pointless it was for me to follow people i dont even speak to and look at stuff i dont care about.

It's kinda toxic imo to constantly compare yourself to others and the whole culture of seeking validation constantly and trying to impress people you dont know is now repulsive to me. Looking at social media just made me depressed yet i kept scrolling.

I used to wonder why some people are able to go to work, have relationships, go to the gym and have social life and hobbies and then i realized they don't sit around doing nothing for most of the day. Quitting social media allowed me to start learning to play piano and going to the gym and reading a lot more. The only kind of "social media" i use is tinder and ktt i guess

I've been off social media for years and I agree with your points but I recently hopped back onto Instagram and I'll tell you why. Networking. When I deleted my accounts, sure I was no longer exposed to whatever toxicity I was following but at the same time I cut off a good chunk of connections. I started to realize that a good number of people I needed to speak to were no longer available to me. I make music so this is a big no-no considering a good chunk of what I do requires me to reach out to people. Sure I could get everyone's phone numbers but people are more prone to hitting you up if your name crossed them on a day to day. However if you don't need to spontaneously hit up strangers/people outside of your circle, live it up. Social media is gonna be social media.

Social media is a complete waste of time, I have a Facebook for career connections but that's it, other than that I refuse to use any of it.

yeah thats the same reason i quit social media. it‘s like kanye would put it „seeking validation in the simulation“

Mainly following all the people in my local area and checking out their stories from time to time.

They definitely seem to care about their online persona

Haven't used social media in years and dont plan on using it anytime soon

  • Oct 26, 2019

I just use ig to showcase my work and network . That’s pretty much it

  • Oct 26, 2019

It can get quite toxic and when you enter the state of endless scrolling then it is a complete waste of time when you could pick up a and learn a new skill.

However, the networking opportunities as a creative are pretty powerful, and for that reason, I keep it. It’s basically my portfolio.

  • Oct 26, 2019

I go on and off with social media. I usually keep ig all the time but I take breaks from twitter. It’s always refreshing to do it.

  • Oct 26, 2019

I dont use it since I have no friends

They taking it too serious too, you should perfectly be able to have social media and it not being “toxic”, something in your brain is causing that, it ain’t instagram lol

imagine not knowing it's a valuable networking & exposure tool

i am aware that many people use social media for things like networking, i am just speaking personally. thats why i said "why I dont use social media". different people have different reasons as to why they stopped or limit their use of social media.

it would be dumb to say that it's utterly useless, its a very valuable tool but it still has drawbacks imo

I prefer 2nd hand social media. Never gonna use it myself, unless its about business in the future.

That's the only redeeming quality I see with SM, if you're about the money, then its an essential tool to network and expand. Everything else is useless

  • Oct 26, 2019

I just use twitter for news, sports, memes, etc I dont tweet anything

  • Oct 26, 2019

All about how you use it

It is pretty garbage though I’ll give you that

  • Oct 26, 2019

Social media is cancerous. The founders of different platforms are admitting it. Particularly FaceBook. They admitted they did unethical things to get people hooked on it. Besides using it to network, educate, or for business purposes, it doesn't have too much of a purpose other than taking time that could be used on more important things.

It has definitely aided in narcissism, comparing your life to others, and being fake happy/inauthentic for the sake of likes and reposts.

I wonder how would our lives look if we would ONLY follow people we know closely and our only contact with celebrities would be through movies, music, art.

Like imagine how low key and calm your life would be if you'd live like there's no one else on this planet but people u know.

You go on IG you only see pics of your friends and not some extremely rich and beautiful people
You go on Spotify you play JIK and you don't even know about anything Kanye related you can simply enjoy the music
You to the movies and you don't care about the real lives of the actors you saw

Is it possible to live a life minding only your business

For what I'm pursuing a career in none of the pros really use anything other than Facebook, I wouldn't get anything out of Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat except for wasted time
