I mean think about it. You pirate a game and theres a lot of cons to the pro of a free game. No updates, no online, anti-piracy measures, and the threat of viruses. But because music is so small and audio is so hard to protect and easy to access theres really no money in selling albums anymore.
I say all this to say why do we even have billboard charts and album projections? People only really buy records as a bundle to merch nowadays, and counting album sales with "streams" is inherently wrong because the listener is purchasing the service, not the record, and so theres less meaning in a "play". I say we replace Billboard with a global stream tally that just counts total plays like a highscore page and judge things that way.
EDIT: @Goooooooooooo stole my idea. Sad! Many such cases.
We need to get rid of the charts so music will get better
F*** all these “albums” which are just glorified playlists
As long as there are people who think sales are more important than the quality of the music, charts will always be around.

!!!
It really is unnecessary now, a lot of those numbers are widely inflated because of bundles at least they got rid of that

It still amazes to see stans brag about sales more than caring about the music quality

Tbh Rap albums are either shorter and more cohesive now than they were back then.
Or at the very least it’s the same
Yeah its kinda like how we have netflix or amazon prime or whatever but they don't release public sales figures of their shows but for some reason with music it still happens

Yeah but it feels worse because the mainstream sound in rap is so stale so nothing is standing out atm
Billboard is just a tool to keep artists in slave contracts.
"Do you want a #1 hit song & a platinum album? Then give us your catalogue & ur publishing."
Isn’t that what the new Billboard worldwide charts tryna do ?
I didnt know what you were talking about, so i searched it up, but these stingy bone-in-mouf niggas got the f***in thing locked behind a "pro" subscription so f*** them. I mean if it is its a f***ed up way of doing it. It needs to be like SDA (Speed Demos Archive) where you see the #1 for free
Yeah but it feels worse because the mainstream sound in rap is so stale so nothing is standing out atm
I feel you. We def need a cultural reset.

If you think Rap is bad try EDM, Pop, or Rock. That s*** has gotten so bad its like watching Dada 500 and Kimbo Slice fight again

this is a good point, it's called the music "industry" for a reason, charts reflecting sales are just a microcosm of corporate control of music
