This always confused me.

I don’t use it because “girl” or “woman” sounds better, but that’s just my personal preference.

It doesn’t bother me when others say it, but apparently “female” is seen as derogatory now.

Because “female” doesn’t even specifically reference a human. It’s degrading a woman to her most biological s***organ. Female basically means “has vagina” whereas “woman” is nuanced and encompasses what it means to be a woman.
