I’m watching this Japanese reality show and all the member wears APC, cdg, balenciaga etc casually

Like they aren’t fashion forum nerds just regular normally stylish people. Over here affordable but good-ish fashion would be zara or uniqlo or smth.

are those brands just cheaper in japan

Im guessing you’re watching terrace house. No the brands aren’t cheaper for the most part and if they are it’s jp brands and it’s very marginal. The people that sign up for that show are obviously more fashion conscience then average (models,actors, etc.)

Also I wouldn’t be surprised if the balenciaga pieces are fake, I haven’t seen the episodes/season you’re talking about but in the one I’ve watched there were a lot of bad supreme fakes being worn

I’m pretty sure it’s safe to assume that Uniqlo IS the go to brand for the average Japanese clothing consumer. They’re the highest earning clothing brand in Japan and there company’s ethos and overall direction of creating essential, sustainable, day to day clothing fits perfectly with the current typical Japanese identity

Also helps that Japan has some of the highest quality factories producing cotton and other sourced materials that cost a bunch for brands in the west to import.
