XXX made the exact type of music you're complaining about

he had it all in terms of potential, he had a pop hit like "SAD", some emo-punk screaming s*** with "Pain = best friend" and a boombap track rapping fire with "infinity" all on the same album

not the biggest fan of his on album length but you can't compare him to memeheads like pump or yachty

He was a jack of all trades, master of none tbh

Did a lot of things but wasn't particularly skilled or original at any of them

    Shoutout the killers

With r e t a r d music? Literally no other genre is like this. Most of the lyrics and flows are dumbed down.

As much as I dislike drake, at least this guys music is intelligent. Most of these other guys legit cant rap for s***, can someone explain this to me?

Why don’t we have young equivalents to artists like Wayne, Kanye, Push, Drake, Cudi, Jay Z, TI, Cole, Kendrick?

RIP XXX, may have been the only talented artist his age.

It’s dumbed down because it’s gone from a subculture to mainstream culture, from a social phenomenon to an economic one, and also IQ points have been steadily dropping for quite a few generations now

yea, but I don't put him in the category that op is talking about like Pump, Yachy, Nas X, etc. Would've been interesting to see if he grows as an artist, I mean his albums were pretty bad conceptually, he didn't put any effort into polishing s***

Lil Nas X is a bit like him tbh, in the sense that he just copies a bunch of styles and makes rushed short songs with a catchy hook. He's def not as edgy, but he's a former social media troll/memer so teens find him "relatable" for that reason instead.

I think Nas X is a pure meme XXX was different than him, he was riding the emo wave with some personal touch tbf, like these intro monologues with the s*** that was actually going on in his life you could see that he's not a pure meme artist, sure he was edgy but that's part of the emorap game I suppose, but like you said he was doing all kinds of things, difficult to boil him down to one particular lane, it's not that you're wrong, he had that side too

Yeah but XXX was fake deep, he had some creepy Messiah complex going on. He was acting like he was delivering some life changing messages but it was always just some surface level bullshit. He was a tormented guy with confidence, who happened to look like an anime character so naturally teens went crazy over him.

No lie, the s*** he went through at the time helped uplifting his surface level lyricism to another dimension, he got a huge bonus from the kids for being a character they could identify with, no doubt. As a person he was major trash and delusional af, I mean didn't he say he's better than 2Pac in some IG story?

I remember him calling Pac a fake thug, which is ironic af bc he only beat up harmless nerds and girls, got jumped by Migos and ultimately got blasted by some random Florida punks.

If he thought he was better than Pac then he was probably on his delusional Hopsin s***, thinking that if he raps faster then he's better.

Yup, album carried entirely by production once again in KSG, and the most bland album in recent years, after dropping trio of terrible terrible albums in Indicud, Sf and Sb2h? Yup, that’s def what rap should be like

The carried by production excuse doesn’t work when Cudi is a producer on almost every song of PPDS

Because nowadays the beat carries most of the song so untalented individuals are entering the scene by marketing themselves with nice beats, even if they don't have much talent besides holding a note every now and again

The beat carrying the song is how hip hop came up...

PPDS is s*** tho outside of one Andre verse so lol, and the beats are mostly clearly made by Plain Pat, Dot da genius etc, you can hear it on them ffs

  • Dec 22, 2019

You’re looking at lyrics but don’t even consider the fact that rappers now a days are way more creative with flows, melodies, and song structures

Rappers now a days can pen hits for pop stars. Future & Migos have

Opinions. Either way he’s the lead producer on the majority of the songs
