That's just what you're listening to. Here's some examples of the other side from the past 5 years I could think of

  • But, if anything, I’d argue it’s not taken seriously enough right now.

    Rap nowadays

  • If we’re speaking about 2017 - Present versus 00s then that’s a given considering the state of the world we’ve been in. Aside from 9/11 and the war, the early 00s were a fun time to be around versus nowadays with social media having a huge impact.

Also, whenever an artist comes out trying to be lighthearted, they’re immediately dubbed as being corny too lol

It was serious as f*** in the early 00’s. One could even argue it was way more conscious acts back then

I think back then a lot more collaborations were happening, especially with newly formed groups. It felt like everyone was on the same page and could do whatever. Music videos were also much more vibrant with both featured artists and affiliation cameos.

Nowadays it feels like people are strictly in it for the charts or virality.

Idk if this is what you mean tho.

The state of society and the mentality of the people has changed and it reflects in the music. People are more depressed and angry

at the early 00's being lighthearted when you had a bunch of big ass beefs going on. even the mixtape djs were beefing. imagine an era where djs were doing these type of intros on songs being lighthearted

  • Rap is far from serious lol

  • It was more serious in the 90’s-2000’s. Dudes like Lil B birthed meme rappers and here we are in 2020 and rap is a joke almost.
