Plastic surgery is only really common in Korea, and again, it’s to look younger and/or more attractive according to Korean beauty standards. Here the West is actually following their lead in terms of normalizing cosmetic surgery. But all of this I think can be explained by a stronger drive to conform to social standards and a stronger link between appearance and status (also explains greater prevalence of formal business attire in Japan?)
