Especially considering we’re in an obesity epidemic and the latter fuels it while the former prevents it.

Bought a pack of Marlboro 27s today and those s***s came up to $9 i remember when they were less than $5

Meanwhile you can buy a case of 12 Cokes for like $5

Why are certain “vices” privileged more than others? Especially when cigarette usage is on the decline and obesity is on the rise, it seems clear to me we should be taxing the bigger problem more heavily (puns intended)

TLDR: we need a fat tax

And before yall get smart yes I realize most states have food taxes. I’m taking about charging the whales above and beyond that for the objectively unhealthy s*** the way they do us smokers

It’s time we all admit the truth: fat people are oppressors

It’s objectively true considering how many resources they appropriate from others and how much they drive up our healthcare costs

People will try to turn the finger back on us but the fact of the matter is we consist of 11% of the population in the US currently while fat people make up 40% by conservative estimates and likely much more

Much bigger drain on society yet we’re the ones being punished

i like how u say people will try to turn the finger back on us, referring to smokers

so funny to imagine the whole world as only two groups, fat people and smokers, and if something isn't the fault of one, it's the fault of the other

My guess is most people can enjoy soda/fast food in moderation compared to cigarettes which are completely addicting and hard to quit.

Clearly not considering 11% of people in the US smoke and AT MINIMUM 40% are obese

  • Jul 8, 2023

Like how is there gonna be a barbecue without some chips and stuff, doesn't make sense to tax it just cause some people can't stop themselves from consuming too much. Cigarettes aren't the same though

Yeah but of those smokers, how many aren't addicted? Not very many

would u bum me a cig if i bumped into u in the street

  • Jul 8, 2023

And if your rebuttal is “well thanks to the cigarette tax there’s less people smoking” then I say to you let’s apply that same logic to fat people

If it works so well let’s bring those obesity levels down and start nickel and diming those motherfuckers

    You can’t have both

bad argument, nothing's as addictive as cigarettes but fast food is a close second lol
