My guess, having not heard any of his music, is that he probably is a really talented producer who is great at bringing a strong artistic vision to life, and the problem is that his own music doesn’t have a strong enough artistic vision.
I stress again that I am not basing this off his music, as I haven’t heard it, I am just guessing based on cases I’ve seen of other successful producers who tried and couldn’t get their own careers popping
