I noticed this, especially online. Lots of Europeans/Asians will stan the hell out of Boom Bap or 90's East Coast Rap(Wu Tang, Mobb Deep, Nas, Biggie, etc.), G Funk/West Coast Rap(Dre, Snoop, Cube, Eazy E, Tupac, etc.), or crossover artists like Eminem/Kanye/Drake.

But Southern Rap hasn't seem to really catch one there. Gucci, J Cole, T.I., UGK, Scarface, Jeezy, etc. don't seem to have a true following overseas.

And, while Outkast, Wayne, and Migos managed to crossover at their peaks, they're still not as embraced or stanned as Wu Tang, Kanye, Drake, Tupac, etc. from other regions.

Why is that though? Is is the accent? Beat selection?

Because they’re racist and completely disconnected from the culture

Idk about now, but maybe since most Asians live in Cali/NY, back in the day that boom bap is what they got influenced by and brought that back to their country.
    Idk I’m just speculating

Thanks to the internet most areas caught on when lex luger trap and drill got big and the southern sound in between got lost in the mix

Also the southern sound got huge when the music industry was in its biggest crisis and new US rappers stopped getting as much promotion as the ones of the early 00s

Plus foreign copycats wouldnt really blow up since labels didnt want to invest in new talents with a new sound so the 2006-2012 era was a landfill

Southern rap is very, very black. On top of that with the slang, drawl, and references it's not as accessible as West Coast rap and New York rap to other audiences outside of the US.

I feel like that's changing though (if it hasn't already) seeing as how most of the popular rap music out today is from southern rap artists.

I see non-native English speakers online making jokes about Future's music calling it stuff like "not English" or "mumble" even when they claim that they actually like it.

"My favorite mumble rapper", "this is good for a mumble rap song", etc.

Yea it comes down to those foreigners having trouble understanding southern accents and dismissing it as “not English”
