I felt like he's the East Coast equivalent to what Dre was for the West Coast.
Like I'm happy to see him get in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with ATCQ alone, but his contributions to whole Native Tongues movement and his influence on producers and artists like Ye, Pharrell, Dilla, Madlib, and many more should be something to be worth noting of.
Plus his contributions to classic East coast albums like Illmatic and The Infamous is something to be talked about.
Thoughts?

Dre just has incredible reach in rap tbh He influenced the East, the West, the South. Everybody wanted that Dre sound in the 90s--at a time when biting was seen as one of the worst things rappers could do--and then in the 2000's everybody wanted the Dre mixing and mastering. Had the group success + the solo success plus the features/productions for a bunch of other hits and artist + introduced a handful of the biggest and greatest rappers ever to the game. And the success was super mainstream/commercial. Worldwide type hits.
No slight to Tip--no other producer can really match Dre in all of these categories. Dre washes anybody in rap history in a 20 song VZ imo and would have 40 more on deck with ease
Tip does have a crazy nice pipeline of influence and artists, fs. Native Tongues one of the more under discussed things in rap history. Would've been dope
Influence ≠ Impact
Dre had hits and built an empire full of artist that to this day are still putting out generational hits. Worked with virtually all the biggest names in hip hop history. There’s really no comparison.

Agree, but Tip does have impact

MAN i wish tip would collab with more up n coming acts
closest thing i think is kendrick on the last tribe album
He very well might be the best to ever do it. Q is more important to me than Dre and pretty much every producer/rapper
Agree, but Tip does have impact
Most definitely
Just no where as much impact Dre has had. We’re talking Tupac,50 Cent, Eminem, Jay Z, Nas.
But I agree Q tip is extremely underrated.
Because the industry pushes Dr Dre because he fits what they want hip hop to be
basically hes also like one of the first willing rap execs and since hes not really a good rapper he fell on that
east coast had so much heat at time, the west did too but no where near the level the east had
Hes way better than Dre
Dre is waaay bigger though , also he influenced Q Tip himself and he brought out tons of huge artist

He did some joints on danny brown album in 2019 and they was fireee

Q Tip influenced Dre more than Dre influenced Q Tip
Nuthin But a G Thang is west coast Check the Rhime. The Chronic in 1992 is following the sonic shift that The Low End Theory brought in 1991.
Rarely gets talked about but it’s true. Dre smoothed out his sound and moved from the Public Enemy influence because of Q Tip
@Water_Giver @Uhhhhhh
pete rock or pharrell or dj premier i would say are moreso the east coast "dr dre"
but kanye is the only thing close to dre in rap to me that hits most of the aspects of dre besides like 2 or 3
tip while a great producer and engineer in his own right, he hasnt done as much as those guys and especially as dre
dre has the biggest hiphop tree and most expansive collaborative projects than anyone else too while being seen as a standard in sound design
also pete rock and premier have worked with so many other people on other artists full collab projects - and then pharrell has that plus the whole curator and executive producer part of dre as well
tip only really has the engineering part above all of them but falls in comparison of other aspects in terms of quantity
timbaland could have also been another "dre" if he kept going the way he did with missy, timberlake, aaliyah and a few others
every person tho is missing how many artists artists dre directly worked with, transformed and/or put on all around country regardless of side/sound and he's done multiple genres (which is something timb has an up in as well) - and theyre all missing, except for q-tip, the engineering side of things. and then theyre all missing, except for pharrell, the executive producing.
dr. dre has literally done and still is wearing every hat that exists in music creation. even if he doesnt do much of a side anymore (like producing), he did at one point do it 100% and it was very high tier.
in terms of overall - kanye would be closes, then pharrell - then an hm to timb who really falls on how "short" his run i in comparison. while tip is up in the engineering side - then pete and premier in terms of full-on collabs and artists hands they touched.
q-tip is still amazing tho and is one of like 3 to 5 people that actually touches the engineering side of things of the big/know/upfront names in the hip-hop industry like Dre. along with dj screw (rip), dj quik (he is basically "mini" dr. dre), OVO 40 (sad he desnt branch out to artists or else he could def be the "next dr dre" in almost every aspect except rapping) & No ID.
