Now this is not about the actual ending of the show itself, because I think that the scene is fine and probably would've ended up like that anyway, or in some form as chase said as well a different ending he considered would be tony going to see sacks in the city in a meeting and then we don't see him coming back i.e. tony dies in that meeting

But if you noticed upon watching the show, that after season 3, in fact, in the middle of season 3, the show took a very different turn. Originally Liv was suppose to testify against Tony and that was going to be a major plot point in S3 with I assume that having overarching effect on the show at large, and the Italian connection felt like it was going to have more of an impact too, I don't think that they were just supposed to go over once, when you go back and watch the Italy episode it feels like it was trying to set up a bunch of plot points for later, and there was a clear shift in story lines post livia's death that were obviously ham-fisted in because of the circumstance.

Regardless, the actual ending of the show was fine but there were a clear decline in quality post s3 (the back 3 seasons are clearly the weaker parts of the show) and I think this can be traced back to all the story lines chase had laid out being f***ed up by the death of Liv's actress that prevented his original vision from being realized properly.

Barely finished season 1 or my rewatch bc of how boring I found it compared to the later seasons

They could’ve just used a different actress, shows do it all the time

  • the back 3 seasons are clearly the weaker parts of the show

    Ain’t reading

    season 1 the best season

    Goodfellas lite season

Literally every every season after is better with the first 3 being better than the season that came before them

The only thing the Livia actress death stunted was the therapy sessions, but even that peaked by s3

Livias role in the show was replaced in part to his goomars and Janice as being thorns in his side

Show would’ve went a lot differently if Tony would’ve had the makings of a varsity athlete.

Also s1 is the worst season, still great television but nowhere close to the shows peak

  • Apr 6, 2023

A little bit nitpicky for me

  • Apr 6, 2023

season 2 with Richie is the best

The final season gives me crazy existential dread which I think is a good thing as far as quality goes

Off topic but I’m rewatching the final season of Leftovers and that season actually gives me the opposite and gives me more comfort about existence.
