like 5, 10, 15 year anniversary edition with some unheard bonus tracks like other genres do
why hip-hop labels and artists don't give af about it?
Isn’t that a positive though ?

how? artists like Kanye, Jay Z, Kendrick and Drake have some crazy scrapped gems in their vault, they have songs that didn't make the final albums

Slick Rick did this in 2019 with the release of Snakes of the World with the anniversary release of The Great Adventures of Slick Rick
last time i seen this done was with Daft Punk RAM Anniversary Edition but i would even include The Estate Sale by Tyler and the recent Outkast anniversary releases
seems like it’s still an alive market
because rap more than any genre tries to stay trendy, and re-releasing music gives the impression that they're desperate to capitalize on the success of their previous works instead of creating something new that can match that same level of success
idk if that's actually the reason i just pulled that out of my ass
i hate to say it, but it really boils down to demographics
the only people who are invested in deluxe editions of any albums are hardcore fans and old people with a lot of money
hardcore fans more than likely gonna already own the unreleased material via bootlegs and leaks
old people love buying deluxe editions just for the sake of convenience and they love to b**** and moan on steve hoffman forums that they f***ed up and ruined a song because of the audio quality
also it doesn’t help that part of the fun in buying a deluxe edition of an album is the physical component…which we all know people don’t really give af about nowadays
Food & Liquor had one with some of the og leaked tracks
Eminem just released MMLP2 10 year anniversary with one unreleased track and instrumentals

real
artists have been dropping mixtapes on streaming with new bonus tracks tacked onto them for the anniversaries
Nicki (PF, TPP), Wayne (C4), and Wiz (RP) recently dropped deluxe versions of their albums with all the bonus tracks together (they were previously spread across different versions)
other songs from the original recording era are usually given away as features or leak, that’s why artists don’t put them as bonus songs on anniversary albums
you don’t see most other genres do features
@op luv is rage is the deluxe anniversary version of die lit
Lebron James was gonna bring this concept back when he executive produced 2 Chainz album, only a Hip-Hop Historian could do that.
Isn’t that a positive though ?
no, it’s not a positive. you can’t just have classic rock blues and jazz be honored. you have to take the same care for all art - no matter what decade
This shouldn’t even be debated. the artists & groups lose out in the end - everytime & history becomes more warped 😒

You didn’t have to do @op like that bro
5,10 year anniversary is ridiculous and rare
even 15 year anniversary is considered lowkey desperate

i predict eventually they will when the catalog becomes more valued over time. it’s going to take some time
Like how Donny Hathaway box sets arrived - it did take 4 decades to do that but still they are here. There are actually 2 Hathaway box sets out now.
Or like how King Crimson after 40 years had to put out their unreleased outtakes & tour catalog due to copyright law stating you can reset your copyrights
i believe a matter of circumstances will change this. But people who had great tour shows should be adding concerts if there is no unreleased material
There should be something more than s***ty single edit
release the different mixes - there are many options you could pivot to. other than a generic instrumental of the same exact track

Hopefully this will never become a big thing I don‘t wanna hear Drake put more mid in his 20 song albums
