I've seen like three threads today about how today's rap is trash and how its not evolving etc.

While I get their point, at the same time we're in the Streaming Era, you can find thousands upon thousands of artists that fit your tastes.

literally bro lmfaooo i be lurking these threads kinda confused but i get it. i think its deeper than the music tho

I might be biased but I don’t think this applies to Kanye’s fanbase like that besides clowns like loveu and sometimes clowns like Ikarus

I think there’s a lingering effect of a lot of (suburban) people being introduced to rap through Kanye because he made more “intelligent” and “artsy” music so they were never really fans of the genre as a whole and generally have a more Rolling Stone/P4k in music. Rap was never their main focus.

That’s not a knock on Kanye cuz it’s not his fault but it’s a not insignificant portion of his fanbase that’s like that

I miss how rap used to be😩

Goes to listen to 2015 Young Thug

    Yep

History always repeats itself. Now the early 2010’s hip hop fans are feeling how 90’s and 2000’s niggas felt.

  • It’s not about being an old head. Rap really does suck nowadays. You could be a Kendrick but if you not acting like a 6ix9ine you’re overlooked cause you not making an ass out of yourself. Rap isn’t taken seriously anymore since it went pop. Too many casual fans that only like memes and what’s trendy have too much power now. S*** is ass. If I had it my way lyrical rappers would be the face of hip hop.

It’s not a matter of lyrical vs non lyrical and the fact that you think it is shows you don’t really understand the nuances of this culture

  • Paradigm shift. It’s been slowly happening all year. You gotta think that KTT is getting much older now and this is a natural shift in taste and attitude to pop culture.
