overhated
It was a great beat collection, but with some of the worst Jay bars ever
That’s valid, i’m more of a production head than anything else so i like it a lot
if it wasn't for ross the whole thing would have been a recycle bin classic. he saved one song on there.
His rapping wasnt good on most songs and s*** like BBC just felt forced still got some good songs tho
It’s like the hip hop version of a Middle aged guy that is reallly into Jeremy renner movies
It was a couple of things.
A. The rollout was soo grandiose. He got a teaser spot during the NBA Finals. Then came the Rick Rubin studio commercials talking bout this and that. Then the “selling a million“ before it was released shtick, which Billboard then told him wasn't actually gonna count. And remember this is Jay coming off Watch the Throne, so he's higher on himself than usual.
B. The production and the name dropping. The tape got mixed reviews but I remember slot of people praising the production, which, imo, did carry the project. People also didn't seem to like all the name dropping and product placement littered throughout the tracks. Particularly cuz at times it sounded hella forced. It seemed like he couldn't find an organic balance between pieces of mind to luxury branding.
Personally, I thought the album was just alright. It does have some hot songs. It just didn't live up to the hype. It was supposed to be Jay inviting us to the Parthenon, but instead it was just an invitation to the biggest mall in your city
i don't pop molly i rock tom ford
