The safest way & easiest for a beginner to start is through some agency or agent helping you that are collaborating with the cruise industry
Hopefully they have something like that in Ghana, if you're not in the capital try looking for that stuff there there's a big big chance there's an agency like that
Because the whole application for whatever position it may be should take $900-1400 around this range and they pay for the airplane ticket from where you're boarding the ship

Idk if u get a work visa or sum but i think that's difficult too sometimes
All I know is ICE and Border Patrol are only getting more and more resources to crack down harder on people and surveil as many people as possible for "border security"/illegal immigration so i would say don't do anything crayz like that because they may very well be worse than ever.
Do some applications but also see if there are countries that aren't as terrible w immigration
I know Canada is extremely strict too
