It’s not a neat comparison at all because of the differences in personality, subject matter, versatility etc but I mostly look at Hov career arc as a parallel to Drake’s even though there are key differences.

Hov classics were spread out with RD, TBP, TBA, & 444 all coming at different points of his career. Drake discog is front loaded with all the classics coming pretty early like SFG, TC, NWTS, IYRTITL etc. Hov classics also outweigh Drake classics in quality by a significant margin imo but that’s a different story (Sidenote: I think Drake non-classics outweigh Hov non-classics so it’s Higher Lows and Lower Highs imo).

Anyway Drake is 37. When Hov turned 37 he was fresh off Kingdom Come and turned in American Gangster before he was 38. He then gave us BP3 at 39, WTT at 41, MCHG at 43, 444 at 47, EIL at 48, and finally AWT at 50. All these were quality imo except for maybe MCHG but even that has grown on me.

Do we think Drake will have a similar level of quality and consistency in the late stages of his career? Mans will really be 50 in 13 years lol. I’m pretty optimistic about it. The two rumored projects in the works (HNM follow up & Conductor collab project) sound promising

  • No. Drake is still acting like a 7 year old

Drake imo is 3/5 this decade in projects (HN an HL being strong albums imo and DLDT a compilation tape but really the bones of the original CLB) so I have no doubts he can drop quality projects in his later years. He has all the skills and resources to do so, it’s really more so whether he wants to focus on putting something cohesive out there or just dropping music in his general formula

People really be hating Hov for no reason lol

For the most part it be anti capitalist folks and superstitious people though

As far as Drake goes I think a good album run would earn a lot of good will back for him. To some people he will always be a lame but those people always thought he was lame from the beginning tbh. Certain people just have a very rigid view of what a goat rapper should be like and he will never fit.

Hov still has the edge legacy wise.

Drake has found himself in a situation where it seems people are pretty much waiting to see his downfall.

It doesn’t take away from the fact that Drake has had the greatest run in music, I wouldn’t restrict it to just hip-hop.

And he has also accumulated the most hits in music history.

I know the last point may sounds crazy but the other day I sat down and listed all of Drake’s hit records in his career and I don’t know who comes close.
