I’m talking a console that throws every rule about current consoles straight out the window and said company makes exactly what they want. We really need something as ambitious and crazy as the Neo Geo attempted one more time imo. I’m talking one company making a super console significantly more powerful than their competitors, making almost all their software(OS,Games etc)is made by themselves from scratch, putting physical games on USB Flash Drives with digital screens on them, console being made of quality materials like aluminum etc.

Just a whole console breaking every rule it can just for the sake of change/to push s*** forward. Look, something like this will more than likely never happen(unless Amazon invested billions of dollars in a gaming company and just told them “make something cool”and let them be)but this would be the time for it to happen. It lowkey feels like gaming is slowly dying cause that wonder of “where can video games go next”isn’t really there anymore.

The Neo Geo really just came out in the wrong era because we need something as ambitious as the Neo Geo now.

Amazon/apple/Google are really the only companies that with the resources to do hardware and software side but even then it's nearly impossible to picture them dedicating enough capital to the game development side to develop a full lineup of decent games. So much risk and the reward is basically a cutthroat competition with Sony and Microsoft for years to come

Gaming landscape is pretty f***ed,especially with video games costing more and more each gen. What I don’t want to see is a Google/Amazon/Apple make a console themselves cause it’s just gonna be copy/paste,extremely commercialized. What I do want to is one of these companies collab with an actual gaming company and invest with them and give them creative freedom on what they want to make(which won’t happen)

Giving this thread one last breath cause I don’t think anyone understood where I was trying to get at it. I’m basically saying,we need a console that plays by its own rules and has its own ecosystem. A whole system that’s future proofed and looks like nothing else.

MS and Sony(especially MS)are just assembly lining games at this point with a few exceptions. Would be nice to see someone flip the gaming industry over.

The idea is nice but like you said it’s probably not going to happen. Sounds like a lot of money for a huge risk.

At the end of the day it comes down to the games. If they don’t have the lineup, if they don’t have the third party support it will fail.

We just need a company to balance out all this corporatism going on in gaming right now. There’s been good games but it’s like, everyone of them follows some formula we’ve seen before. It’s pretty obvious no game maker at this point is in 100% control of what their doing.
