Probably not. Utilizing the internet and social media to promote one’s music and garner buzz was still a fairly new concept. A lot of options to get yourself put out there without the backing of a huge label. Rather it was MySpace, YouTube, mixtape sites, hip hop sites and blogs, the market wasn’t nearly as over saturated as it is today. These platforms allowed for us to see the authentic rise of so many different artists because those platforms had not been over saturated with nonsense either. Tik Tok is what I assume most newer artists utilize to catch buzz. But it’s not nearly the same.

We’ve been saying for long there would be a shift back to the more concious sides of hip hop and new artists to take the torch. But I don’t think it will happen. Do you really think we will see new Kendrick, Tyler, Drake, Cole esque artists from anyone under 25? Time will tell I guess but I personally just don’t see it happening.

Hopsin is terrible and I don’t know how we ever let that happen.

Nope although I would extend it back to like 06 because you really started to see the shift through places like MySpace utilizing their music playlists and networking as a synergy to push some of the household names we know into conversations. Also had legends like Wayne, Kanye, Jay, Em being rejuvenated through those acts. It was the best period to grow up and I don’t think it’ll ever be replicated to your point. The mix was just too perfect of talent and opportunity during the peak of the internet

This unfortunately once corporate finally caught up with the times it was a wrap. Mix that in with streaming pretty much killing massive album leaks. Whole game changed

I honestly think the new stars are really gonna be either people who been in the business for a while or people who are over the age of 25-28. Everybody keeps saying that hip-hop/music is a young people's game, but yet we still have stars who are almost 40 at the top ranks of the game.

I personally believe majority of the younger cats are just simply not as mature as the last generation.

It was a young people’s game when young people could read.
