    I mean it’s kinda like yeezus, hundreds of artists had made something like that but it’s insane and groundbreaking cause a Kanye did it

    That’s where you lose me because WLR isn’t even remotely as close to ambitious as a Yeezus to me

    With Yeezus, Kanye got in the lab with Gesaffelstein, Arca, and Daft Punk after a decade long career of traditional hip hop. He didn’t discover a new sound by any means, but for Kanye that was as left field as it gets.

    With WLR, Carti locked in with Working on Dying, a producer collective that had already started to make a name from working with Uzi years before. Of course the beats they gave Carti were a bit different but it was by no means even close to a departure from his usual sound as Yeezus was for Ye

    the high bpm and emphasis on the drums is very similar to tread. It seems to me like he got rid of all the cloud rap/lofi sounds on his beats and replaced them with rage?

    Carti straight just mixed it with his baby voice and the whole punk, aesthetics and sound.

    F1lthy just stepped his OG sound to a next level by adding those kind of "rage" sounds here and there, since it started to get popular (check newest trippie's stuff)

    F1lthy and oogie definitely started this whole wave, in combo with the PC music stuff picking up traction too

    Once oogie started toning his style to be more commercial and less tread-y (I'm upset, lil Uzi album tracks), it opened it up even more

    na tread is abt the spacey melodies, sound selection, and drum patterns

    tread evolved into a sound like this:

    idk why WOD dropped that and started doing generic s***, but this is what tread became.

    The fast paced s*** and heavy 808s are more of a f1lthy thing than a based on tread thing tbh.
