Complicated rights issues. DC Comics doesn't own the character, Milestone does. They license it for comics but live action stuff requires several 3rd party approvals (including McDuffie's estate who has had issues with both Milestone and DC) and revenue sharing.

Milestone had to go through lawsuits just for DC to even relaunch characters like Static and Icon in comics a few years back. They had to create a specific universe for them separate to DC's main line for like 5 years before only merging back in 2026 with Static joining Titans.

Live action would take a lot of untangling to do and idk if current leadership are up for it honestly.

Another note: Remember MBJ was supposed to be producing a Static film and Val-Zod show? Those just oddly disappeared like so many projects that at very least coulda been cool elseworlds ideas
