Mas Que Nada, made famous internationally by Sergio Mendes in the 60s (and then again in the 00s with Black Eyed Peas) is a cover of a Jorge Ben Jor song

I mean, Scott Storch and Mel-Man basically produced 2001. And even though Mel-Man is on the credits, his name is behind Dre like he's the helper. Dre should've been credited as nothing more then executive producer on 2001.

In that case Mel-Man should've been credited as the executive producer only as well. Because the album was "produced" by Scott, Elizondo, Sean Cruise and few others.

MJ doesnt get enough credit for Billie Jean being COMPLETELY his song, the whole base of the beat and all the lyrics came from him

Nigga made the best song of all time

Frrr Quincy thought it was gonna flop and michael had to fight for it to release too

So many ppl steal from jorge ben it aint even funny ngl. He lowkey a backbone for modern pop melodies.

Honestly if you writing god tier melodies today you prob studied brazillian pop from the 60s

They basically took what the beatles were doing and put it on steroids

nothing sounds like that album sonically without dre being behind the boards

the audio clarity and the way the vocals are stacked, the drum sounds, you don't hear those outside of dre's studio. Those producers you mentioned couldn't replicate the sonics of those tracks without dre, the melodies, chords etc, yeah definitely but if you don't hear the difference between regular production and dre produced/mixed songs from the era 1997 - 2015 then you haven't listened properly

I'm honestly just throwing s*** out there cause of this thread. Dre's mix/mastering is so unique on 2001, you really can't explain it, but it's thematic af. Really not trying to knock Dre, just saying he had more of a hand in things when it came to beats, he didn't make em.

Interesting I feel like Mel probably helped Dre with most of the mixes, but you can alot of Mel-Man signatures on some tracks, like Big Ego's

2001 really had a whole gang of people working on it tbh. I think it's obvious that Storch is mostly on the strings/keys, Mel is programming the drums and Dre is mixing/mastering
