Would you be in favor of getting rid of polical party primaries and have ranked choice voting?

Example instead of having one dem and one repub and a bunch of third parties.

just have the 10 best polling candidates then RCV

I support ranked choice voting, but I think it still makes more sense for the parties to primary and put forward one candidate

  • Mar 31, 2021

    Yeah

does this mean like the next election could be:

    Trump
    v
    Biden
    v
    AOC
    v
    Jamaal Bowman
    v
    Kaitlin Bennett

and no parties attached? in that case yes

why primary and do one candidate?

It just seems weird and unnecessary to have people from the same party running against each other. The primaries still serve an important purpose in weeding out all of the completely unviable candidates. Plus, it would be a huge financial issue as far as allocating party resources if they have multiple candidates in the race.

I could see a few candidates running independent of their party if they do well in the primaries, but it seems like throwing all of those candidates out at once only convolutes the entire process. You can’t even depend on the general population to be informed on two candidates as it is.

We don’t need 30 options, we just need more than 2.

No because there would literally be 500 people on the ballot in the general election and it would be impossible for anyone to research all the candidates

obviously you would need a minimum polling percentage...

5 candidates. And every single one that polls consistently at the bottom gets picked off one by one by a trained, federally approved sniper so they can never run for office ever again.

I wrote an essay on it in my junior year of high school.

It was called The Third Party.

    I got a 67.

Mostly because I forgot to properly cite my research, of which there was none, because I wrote the entire thing in half an hour during the period beforehand.

the two big tent parties pushing forward a single candidate instead of facilitating a number of different degrees of views in their primaries and elections is exactly how we became what we are

exactly. I would rather see top 3 dems and 3 repubs to choose from. also i feel like if it was like this hillary and trump both wouldnt have won 🤷‍♂️

this would make no sense because it’s basically what already happens right now. Even if multiple candidates was a reality the party would just allocate all resources to the top one like they do now, lest the other side strong arm their front man

it’s just more efficient to have multiple different parties

how wouldnt it make sense just because A beats B doesnt mean A would beat B if C was also running.

say dems run 2 candidates (A and B) and republicans run 1 (C)

if dems did a primary A would beat B
and it would be A vs C

but if dems sent both and it was RCV it would be A vs B vs C
and if people who voted for A and C had B as a second choice B would be the winner
