It's impossible to call a single issue the biggest. We have zombie fires in the arctic permafrost that have been going for year after year releasing huge amounts of methane. Not to mention the terrible loss of biodiversity due to the logging of old growth forestry in order to plant more soy to grow, the majority of which is then fed to cattle who also require an obscene amount of water to raise not to mention food that humans could be eating as well as needing large amounts of antibiotics to ensure they don't get sick in the short handful of months they're alive. And then don't forget the transport of all this food and the food for the food. The pollution from the transport is enormous on its own. It's such a multi-faceted issue yet it somehow has such a simple and obvious answer that for whatever reason people can't get on board with. We don't eat dogs and all the livestock animals we do eat are the same as dogs. Animal is animal. Tens of billions dead every year, just an enormous amount of biomass that we needn't be raising and squandering earths limited resources on. We got 8b people that need water more than 20b cows need it.

Anyway that's my rant for the month im gonna leave this place and never return.

You’re saying good information but I don’t understand your OG post of why you don’t support this one part of the solution as being helpful

Yea true but a topic needs to be narrowed for discussion

These idiots can’t even let go of an AC and make it about ‘white’ people shaming or China

    Power consumption/overuse on unnecessary things

Heat lowers physical and mental performance so AC is not useless

i thought japan was the main consumer of ac in household

I would be really surprised if this was true, but my only evidence is anecdotal from living there.

Seemed like most people I knew were super stingy about the AC over there.

    Who said it was useless

Unnecessary is an overuse, it can used more efficiently

I'm all for restrictions tbh. I just live somewhere where a/c is definitely needed at some times for some people. Southwest US btw. So I just see things like wasting of fresh water as worse since we're in a megadrought lmfaoo.

    I get it.

What I’m saying tho is I’m advocating for is more efficient usage meaning

    • Areas where AC is needed more should be allocated more capacity usage per month (Louisiana/Parts of Cali/Florida)

    • Usage be adjusted and updated regularly based on weather changes

    • Be tailored depending on if children or elderly live in the household

Just a few good things that could implemented in a policy like that

I could be ok w changing the filters or chemicals so it’s less toxic but I don’t know the science.

The most pressing issue is corporate waste but that’s not what we’re supposed to push for.

  • You could also just buy an air conditioner

ye i'd go for all that tbh

last summer when I had the place to myself I never turned the a/c on but I really suffered on those 100+ days lol

  • Not gonna act like I know the environmental effects of air conditioners but i cant imagine its bad enough to restrict for that reason

  • Jun 20, 2021

Point still stands. Americans don’t get hot?

Why do you want to restrict AC access of first world countries? It’s a great invention and we should make full use of it
