Congress has an immensely powerful right to investigate and this is one of the cases where it does exert power over the Executive. They're not trying to arrest a sitting president.

Cabinet members like Bondi have already been put in near-perjurious scenarios. This is comfortably the worst thing a Presidential administration has to maneuver and it will only get worse.

Dems have enough space to try this right now, and if they regain congress next year there's nothing GOP or the White House can do to stop subpoenas or slowdown the congressional schedule like Johnson has been ordered to do the last few months.
