i see visualizers these days as place holders until an actual video comes out. so it may be the typical loop we're used to or I see it now extending to doing a type of one take shot of the artist performing the song. either way, it's supposed to be a low effort version of the actual video. not much editing, just a little visual to go along with the song.

In my opinion, I think of visualizer as like an umbrella term for any video accompaniment to a song, that could be a loop that could be a full scale music video. All music videos are visualizers, but not all visualizers are music videos.
