Truth be told: Cyberpunk 2077 and Octopath Traveler II really should’ve been GP games.
Hear me out:
-CP77 got that next-gen upgrade in 2022, a year when Xbox had nothing in the 1st-party front. Xbox and CD Projekt already had a marketing deal in place for CP77. It could’ve been a big GP game in 2022..
-OT2 coming to GP would make up for the fact that Xbox didn’t receive that game at the same time as Switch & PlayStation did.

It’s the right move to increase Xbox’s mindshare.

The average joe still doesn’t know whatever the f*** a "Series X|S" is (whereas obviously they’re aware of PS5’s existence).

Without COD on Game Pass, Xbox would be irrelevant come this holiday. STALKER 2, Avowed and Indiana Jones aren’t enough unfortunately.

I agree it’s about how many and for how long but I just think if this isn’t an “internal success” whatever that metric is for Microsoft, they’re gonna take an insane PR hit backtracking this next year. This is the GP experiment of the year.

Also It doesn’t help that those games this holiday likely won’t turn a profit due to Microsoft’s emphasis on GP. GP is great as a concept for me as a consumer but games costs to much to make for this to be the standard for AAA games idk. To the point I still try to buy games on Xbox when they go on sale if I care about the teams.

The subscriber numbers on GP would have to be huge and idk if CoD even as the juggernaut it is will get us there all alone (I could be grossly mistaken on this tho CoD reach is crazy)
