Oh so this why surgeries get botched.
Especially if you're poor with no insurance they send the rookie students to work on you
OH MY GOD
Oh nah, the surgeon is still doing 99.9% of the work. They really only let the med student do something if ya something that they really can’t f*** up, or something they could fix without anything detrimental happening.

You ever watch any of those ophthalmology surgeries and go "Damn, niggas really f***ing that s*** up"
Yup. But when I say “participate” I mean that very loosely lmao. Like if you’re really interested in it you can help with a lot of minor things during the surgeries like suturing, holding things in place, cutting, etc.
But if you have zero interest you could get away with just kinda standing there and holding the patient open lol. You wouldn’t get a good grade if you did that tho, which may or may not matter
Were you scared of that before going into med school?
Well you'll be rich but you'll be worked to death too...
Gastroenterology has a pretty solid work/life balance so it really won’t be too bad.
Plus I get to do really cool s*** so I’m ok with it lol

Nah I was actually hype. I had shadowed a few surgeons before and found the surgeries super interesting. If it wasn’t for the really s***ty lifestyle of surgeons I probably would’ve gone into surgery tbh
But GI gets to do a ton of really cool procedures so I’m pumped about that

I actually never did any ophtho rotations, but I’ve definitely felt that way when watching other doctors
Congrats fam. I wanted to be a doctor as a kid but didnt realize how much work had to be put in until i got older.
So i have mad respect for anyone that completes it.
