  • I’m all for sports and rap a***ogies but I always hated the 1 to 1 comparisons between the two.

For example in ball there is objective truths: did you win? Did you make baskets? Did you get assists and rebounds? Even if we ignore box score, we could say did you defend shots? At the end of the day you’re competing against the best of the best, and you have to get through them to achieve your goals.

In music, you could have someone like Lil Nas X build a genuine fan base off of memes, and next thing you know he is sharing the stages with artists of the highest caliber. He didn’t have to rap battle Jay Z, or get in a catchy song competition with Drake, and the winner gets there song played on the radio and Spotify playlists.

Because there is no barrier of entry in music, artists try to get away with doing the bare minimum. Whatever will “sell” and get me attention, to then get brand deals and sponsorships.

In sports you’re playing head to head vs the pros, you’re forced to bring your A-game and compete at a high level. You gotta put in the work to get to these stages

(No knock to Lil Nas X here this was just as an example, but applies to the majority of “artists” coming out today)
