It hurts his message because he was never truly anti Bush or anti oppression. His endorsement of Trump is proof he has always been anti conformist and that he will say and do anything that goes against the norm just because he feels empowered being divisive. What initially felt like a genuine empathetic feeling for others has now been turned as a purely selfish motive and really calls all of his past behavior into question.
