This site is too obsessed with sales, cultural relevance, aging well (art doesn’t age, you’re just too unsophisticated to evaluate something in its proper context), and whether artists have classics and consistent runs. Some of the greatest musicians have strings of bad albums for years and come back making great music decades later.
The obsession with “classics” and something holding up to modern standards with replay value is ridiculous on here. No one who talks about music seriously in any other genre thinks in this really reductive way. It’s like childish almost. It’s for some reason a problem with hip-hop discussions specifically.
people are too busy treating this s*** like some kind of competition instead of actually appreciating art

It’s because of this materialistic postmodern world. I blame capitalism.
We already opening up this can of worms so early

this is absolutely true. but i can also recognize that this is much easier to accept retrospectively, in context of a complete catalog, rather than in the moment. an artist puts out an album not up to past releases (by the listener's standards) and they have to live with that for however long it takes the artist to release the next one. they can release 5 more, 10 more, 1 more. but it's in real time. i think naturally a "bad" release from an active artist is more difficult to digest than exploring an artist's extensive catalog that has some ebbs and flows but ultimately there's greatness there.
This site is too worried about what’s being played “outside” and by certain demographics of people than just enjoying the music for what it is
