What status does it have among rap fanatics?

High key a rap cultural classic but outside of rap culture at the same time…

I find it corny tbh, and the way people talk about it can get super obnoxious. Musical theater people were all patting themselves on the back, it was really weird.

I sort of wish they made more of an effort to incorporate hiphop production, instead of just having musical theater songs with rapping.

Agreed it’s flawed but it has to be said that the concept itself is pretty ingenious. The connection of someone writing their way out of their circumstance is inspired

Hip hop production and a less corny Eminem rap style would’ve been good

I also feel like artists who had their lyrics referenced should be compensated, specifically Mobb Deep and family deserve a courtesy check for contributing a crucial lyric. And idk if BIG estate even saw money for 10 crack commandments being remade. Could’ve got more good will within hip hop if they made a point to give back

It’s certainly impressive, just like Eminem can be impressive, just not something I enjoy all that much

Someone once told me that the only reason this was successful was because it was about American history. Black and brown cast mostly rapping with any other plotline is flopping
