imo it feels like mainstream hip hop is entering a similar era that mainstream rock was in during the 2000s

Cannot wait for hip-hop's Silent Alarm.

yeah bro like maybe it's just anecdotal because it's my younger cousin and her friends but she posted some graphic of "my favorite albums" or something and of the 10 albums i wanna say 7 of them were from 2015-2018 which she was like 10 for and according to her most her friends are like that

i feel like this is pretty normal for people who arent obsessed with music. thats the stuff she grew up with cus theres usually some lag between an artists peak popularity and the actual time theyre releasing their best music

i'm a couple years removed from college and i'll say this, when i was in high school my classmates weren't listening to older artists as much as my high school aged cousins and their classmates are now. like in 2015 people weren't listening to stuff from like 08 or whatever that much but my cousins friends still are saying i'm lucky to have been in college to experience 2016 as it happened being that age. there's a lot of amazing music coming out but the scene just isn't the same

people are gonna realize that the hip hop during 2012 - 2018 was insane in terms of quality music being released consistently. like you cannot name any albums from the past few years with any of the impact that releases had during that time period. will def be seen as a classic era in the future

  • Dec 22, 2023

I truly, sincerely cannot understand how anyone could think 2000s rock is the best decade for rock music. The calendar year 2000 was good and then it was like an immediate plummet

    Definitely lol

Which might be for the better as rock imo improved a lot in the 2010s once it fell off in the mainstream. There's no grandiosity behind making rock music anymore. If you do it at this point, you truly just gotta love it. It doesn't get you clout like that anymore, nor money, but a lot of it is still damn good, way better than all the revivalist stuff we were getting in the 2000s

wait can u explain how 2010s rock is better than 2000s?

i can name a lot of great 2000s bands but 2010s all i have is tame impala and men i trust

At a certain point in ur listening career it’s going to take effort to actually find new and enjoyable music

I was out of touch myself but I forced myself to sit down and research like it was homework and now I couldn’t be happier

Just wish I had more ppl to discuss with

2000s rock was either really toned down versions of better forms of rock music, or just this bland revivalist stuff that sounded good but wasn't really inspiring

2010s rock got weird again and the experimentation rock experienced in the 2010s was refreshing from the nostalgia death grip that consumed rock in the 2000s

Lmao fym “who cares”? My point is that it’s nonsensical to argue that the reason why we don’t like this music is because we’re simply “out of touch” when so many statistics are indicating that rap isn’t as salient with music lovers anymore. If you TRULY believe that we’re out of touch, you’re gonna have to also accept the logical conclusion, which is that nearly everyone except 100 people on this site are also out of touch. Do you see now how ridiculous that sounds? Lol it sounds ridiculous because that ISNT the case. The reality is that the music isn’t good. That’s why it isn’t connecting

i feel this completely, i also feel like when u find that s*** u rly f*** with its just not that many people who share the exact same vision, like with more options it sort of splits everyones attention in more directions so its less homogenous
