JIK is by no means Kanye’s best work but it’s still a really solid album, tracks like Hands On and God Is are proof that Kanye can still make quality songs. The album has its gems and it’s misses. Follow God, On God, Use This Gospel are all fire. But the fact that JIK is getting so much hate is ridiculous to me, it’s like y’all letting the General public’s opinion sway your own. We know that a lot of people aren’t f***ing with Kanye anymore ever since the MAGA incident, I’m sure over half of the people calling JIK trash didn’t even bother giving it a listen. This album is not trash, it is solid. Kanye has one of the best discography’s so comparing it to his older stuff is just unrealistic. Enjoy the music for what it is. His prime is over, we should be glad he’s even releasing anything at this point. And also if your an atheist and you aren’t rocking with it, THATS OK. Doesn’t mean it’s trash, I can understand you not wanting to listen to that subject matter because it’s not where your beliefs fall.

And it’s not about the subject matter. He’s made good religious songs before

It’s the terrible mixing, unfleshed songs, terrible lyrics at times (Water verse).

He doesn’t put effort into it anymore and it shows

That’s the thing tho even when he doesn’t put the same effort he still has a good ear for production and it’s still sonically interesting. Bro u really telling me you don’t rock with Hands On, Follow God, or On God? Those are really good songs imo

Fans who are "turned off" by the god-cetric themes of this album must not know Jesus Walks, Never Let Me Down, Ultralight Beam or... the majority of his discography exist.

    Fake fans.

This point is completely separate from whether or not I like this album (and I do), but I'm seeing a lot of hypocrites.

True, but the misses were only misses because the other songs on the album were so good.

Now when he misses it’s a true miss

I can’t even listen to Water because of that weak ass verse. It’s literally so bad. Lyrics, delivery, the way it abruptly ends (and you can hear someone in the background say “yeah” or something after it. It’s probably the worst song in his discog

That doesn’t make the whole album trash tho, I agree water is bad, but just delete the songs u not rocking with and keep the ones u like.

This album is miles better than ye but it's by no means one of his best. But it's not exactly presenting something new.

Just a year ago, people were raving over KSG... and it's literally a plea to God.

The highs on JIK are better than Ye honestly. I’m gonna have to give JIK some time before I know for sure. By the way I went to the NYC listening and HATED this album when I first heard it. This s*** grew on me like a mf.

Jesus Walks is on another level though

it was way more thought provoking than anything on JIK

My biggest gripe is no Up From The Ashes, that song alone as an intro would have CARRIED this album.

I agree that the album is solid but i'm not mad at anyone who's disappointed, the album isn't touching his best

but it's still above average relative to the rest of rap

JIK is basically an album full of ULB’s. ULB wasn’t thought provoking at all aside from the Chance verse. JIK is a GREAT Gospel album, if we talking a strictly GOSPEL album then JIK is amazing. If We talking about hip hop albums then yes JIK isn’t the best

  • It is clear at this point Kanye is over having a curated perfect discog. He records in just a living room straight into a computer. We aren't getting Rosewood esque sessions anymore. He in a state where he just wants to make s*** and put it out it seems. Over with perfection and elaboration

The thing that confuses me about a lot of Kanye fans is them expecting next level albums at this point. Like he hasn’t made an amazing album since TLOP imo, KSG was great but that was mostly cudi. They need to lower their standards or else they’re just gonna keep being disappointed

The weakest 7 tracks on this album are better than ye as a whole. JIK is miles better than ye but it's still in the bottom ranks of his discography.

I was at NYC too and it wasn't really big impact to me. There's some good moments on this album and I can see past the weaker lyrical content because there's no mumbling at least and the beats are actually interesting.

it's hard to lower standards for Kanye

he's been high standard for so long that it's hard to lower expectations

we're talking about basically the best discography all time for rap

Do U know how much pressure Ye would have if he had to match the rest of his discography which is nearly perfection? Why would he want that? If he did that it would probably come out terrible because he would be trying too hard. Also the left field s*** he would say in his older albums won’t be said anymore because he’s older now. So at this point we’re just gonna have to get used to this.

you're right I give you that.

But I will say that in defense of everyone who's turned off by God-centric themes, it is very overwhelming on this album. he didn't hold back at all. He laid it on at the max level
