Putting aside just the fact that its one of the biggest pop albums oty and got the biggest song oty on it, its also just a genuinely great album and definitely way better than anything that was actually nominated by the Grammys outside of like Alfredo or some other inclusions in the smaller categories.

    it checks off every box

if you can’t see why it’s Grammy worthy you’re either a hater or out of touch

its also very telling that despite changes and After Hours dropping around the same time, After Hours is still at #28 on Billboard with Changes all the way at 180

even folklore, the supposed GIGANTIC and HUGE album from Taylor Swift, that dropped only a few months ago is actually 1 spot below After Hours right now.

But those 2 somehow deserved AOTY spots over AH.

    Like which songs specifically

Cause that s*** was poppy garbage to me

  • DREEZY

    I mean...really tho🤔

My dude, if this can win a Grammy, why can’t someone who sings on his tracks win?

I don’t see an excuse why weeknd can’t get one for his efforts.

It’s a paperweight that holds significance to put in the bio that adds to the resume. And that’s really what a Grammy is for a recording artist.

What does chart success have to do with the quality of the album? The Grammys aren't a popularity contest otherwise Beyonce would have won instead of Beck but the voters focus on the quality and effort.

They kinda are tho. Popularity and label politics have always played a huge part in who gets nominated.

Pretty much all the top 5 biggest pop albums of the year got nominations even the ones that were super mediocre or had no impact... cough... "Changes, HB"

When the white artist truly had the biggest year like Taylor Swift those 2 times, Billie Eilish or Adele, they sweep everything up with mediocre projects that get the benefit of the doubt cuz of how dominant in culture they were.

When a black artist has the most talked about album oty (Kendrick with GKMC, DAMN or TPAB, Kanye with MBDTF, Frank Ocean with Channel Orange, Drake with Views or Scorpion, Beyonce with her s/t, I can go on and on and on), they either get snubbed for some white artist (Recovery over MBDTF? Really?), or they lose to the "deep", "underappreciated", "talented genius" white artist. (Random Access Memories beats Good Kid Mad City, Mumford and Sons beats Channel Orange, Beck beats Beyonce, Kacey Musgraves beats Drake and Cardi B)

So when you ask what chart success has to do with it, maybe you should be asking why the grammys seem to prioritize chart success only when its a white artist involved.

Are we gonna act like ''Grammy material'' means anything nowadays lol. I mean Changes by Justin Bieber is a grammy nominated album and Hollywood Bleeding is apparently Album of the Year material

  • Nov 25, 2020
    blah

mumford and sons beat channel orange?

    lol

its genuinely hilarious in hindsight and proves the grammys racism

That album had a 63 on metacritic but wins AOTY because I guess it sold 600k first week?

So whats the excuse for Views or Scorpion losing AOTY when they sold much more with better metacritic scores than that?

  • Nov 25, 2020

The point is the Grammys did, and when he didn’t play their game they played him. I didn’t think they could become any more meaningless but they pulled it off

  • Nov 25, 2020
